What really happened in the middle east conflict ?

One of the best, most descriptive and most accurate account of what really happened and is happening in the middle east aka israel conflict ?

Islamist terrorism is the same disease everywhere, whether its in Palestine, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan or anywhere else.

http://sheikyermami.com/2009/01/15/what-really-happened/

Their objective is common.

Wednesday, December 03, 2008

Enough is enough, we are angry, we want answers, politicians shame on you, change the CM, fire the home minister . . . . . now what ??

We went through the worst week in our lives just now with armed terrorists trained in Pakistan killing us and destroying our hometown.

We all unanimously simultaneously asserted 'Enough is enough'.

No more saluting our spirit.

No more asking us to be resilient.

We all expressed our anger at the way our politicians failed in security intelligence.

How they shoddily managed the situation.

How they put their feet in their mouths.

We slammed them for what they said.

we slammed some for not saying anything and being silent.

We saluted our heroes who died in this tragedy in the line of duty.

We expressed our faith, out unity, our solidarity at such a time to the victims and our own bruised souls.

We all resolved to not let this event also pass and fade away and to take a stand.

We all asked questions and demanded answers.

We had debates, discussions, arguments, analysis, interviews, on TV, newspapers, Internet about the incident and about what went wrong and who was responsible and what we need to do in the future so this is not repeated.

We formed groups and action committees to get together in this hour, expressing our unity by paying homage to the dead, lighting candles.

We gathered or proposed to gather at the tragic sites to highlight the messages we want to give to our government that we will not take anymore bullshit like this lying down.

We denounced our media of being hysterical and over excited and screwing up things in their enthusiasm to get maximum eyeballs to their channels.

We decided, enthused, resolved and took a stand that we will not be passive spectators to this anymore and take more active part, take responsibility in choosing who we elect at the next elections.

We sent around thousands of SMSs, emails condemning the attacks, blasting the politicians and praising the brave hearts who showed courage at times of crisis.

We decried and shouted the need of more security for places like Bombay and the money wasted on VIP security.

We screamed for the blood of our local politicians and demanded their resignations, and got it.

We decided that we will make a difference.

We will decide our own future and bring about a change.

we will be THE change.

.................................................................

Now what ??

..................................................................

When Deshmukh resigns, he will be replaced by someone like Sushil kumar shinde...........

When R R Patil resigns, he will be replaced by someone like Chhagan Bhujbal.................

There will be demands for an early poll by every tom, dick and harry political outfit because they want to get in the newspapers.............

In pre-poll campaigning starting immediately the BJP, shivsena, mns and other opportunistic parties will scream, shout and cry hoarse the 'total intelligence failure' of the current government to protect India................

Not willing to mention explicitly at the same time what THEY propose to do to achieve the same................

There will be appointments of special investigation committees (sickening) to investigate this incident which will drain away a few thousand crores of tax payers money and after a few years will come out with conclusions that we already know today................

The single terrorist who killed 55 people and was arrested will be put in jail, his trial will go on for years and even if he is given the death sentence, which by all means he should, he will go on living in jail on our money like his colleague Afzal Guru on some flimsy human right petition that the president cannot decide on for some political reason we will never know..........

The government will deploy a few hundred NSG commandos in Bombay and other metros as a face saving exercise, not as a pro-active response, knowing well that the terrorists can simply strike in some other city the next time..........

At the public outcry of un-necessary VIP security provided to undeserving politicians, the government will symbolically withdraw the security of some of them, while at the same time some more supposed VIPs will apply for and receive the same expensive VIP security at public expense........the equation will remain the same............

There will be a temporary beefing up of security at all public places, airports, stations, theatres, malls etc which will never be impenetrable for any terrorist but will be designed to be pure harassment for the common public so that it looks like the authorities are doing a good job responding to the situation..........

Clearly we are not getting anywhere with this revolution in our hearts, this resolve to bring about a change and this assertion to finally take things in our hands.

Our problem is that we have a fierce desire to make a change in our country, but we have no options at present that will help us do that.

It will do us no good to keep on chanting "lets bring about a change" and "enough is enough".

Even if well-meaning, commendable and first-of-its-kind efforts like "JaagoRe.com" initiated by the tata group manage to bring more of us to the polling stations than ever before . . . then what.

What we are likely to see on that polling booth as our options is going to depress us and bring about a crashing anti-climax.

Just think about what choices do we have there -

The current UPA alliance government - which will be the unfortunate victim of being in power when this happened.

The BJP - Shivsena alliance - L k advani, rath yatras, demolition of mosques, marathi manoos, hindu fundamentalism, vote harvesting through religious politics.

The BSP - mayawati for PM ?

The CPI - Communism ?

The MNS - ????

Without going into any details about each of these, I would say its a pretty depressing scenario. Most of us are more likely to get disappointed and just return back from that booth without having the heart to vote for any of these.

Most often we have to vote for a party if he has a local candidate who we know is a good guy even if his political bosses at the center are not what we want to rule our country, eg. the BJP.

Or we have to vote for some local idiot / goon / criminal just because he happens to belong to the party who is going to give us the best PM, FM etc at the center, eg. the UPA/NCP.

Now we know that the questions of national security and our economic progress cannot be addresses at the local levels and need someone as qualified and as intelligent as Dr. Manmohan Singh and P. Chidambaram at the center. Its been proven beyond doubt that this golden team currently at the helm of affairs in the center has been the best for making India what it is today, an economic powerhouse and a globally respected nation. They are the best thing that has happened to India since independence.

So what do we do ?

We as a nation have always been a knee-jerk reaction people who have always chosen to go to the other extreme in times of crisis influenced and propelled by the media noises and politicians themselves accusing each other.

Very predictably, the immediate reaction of all the other political parties apart form the ruling alliance was to criticize the government for this and point out its failures tooth and nail. Its a god send opportunity for those waiting to grab power.

And most of us, in this state of anger, will play along, going and voting this government out of power and choosing to have people like advani, mayawati and maybe even (god forbid) prakash karat in important places in our country's administration.

Obviously in a few months or years this will come to ground, there might be another terror attack in our country because lets face it, no one can guarantee us a totally terror free nation, something not even the United States of America could do with all its military might and intelligence, and we will do the whole nine yards mentioned above yet again . . . and again and again.

The question here is - Now What ?

One good idea that comes to my mind is to create a situation where we are able to select someone like Ratan Tata, Narayan Murthy, Azim Premji, or other successful scions of the indian economy like them as our CM, or at least as our Home minister or as is being suggested by a lot of intelligent citizens, as a CEO of Bombay city.

In more ways than you can imagine, running a country is not very different from running a business empire. If you have got your economics right, pretty much everything falls into place. If you have your income vs expenditure sorted out, have your public money being spent in correct ways, have transparency of accounts, can control corruption, can run things without giving any thought or relevance to cast, religion, language etc and only giving importance to efficiency and capability in both public and private enterprise and administration . . . you can pretty much run a country like these business leaders have been running their organizations, efficiently and successfully.

They are educated, qualified, experienced, have a global perspective, and have excellent track records of managing vast administrations, thousands of people and improving millions of lives either directly or indirectly.

Nothing could be better than that for India at a time like this when India is almost on the brink of becoming a superpower. The quality of life of the average Indian citizen would improve. Imagine there would be no politicians with shady records, criminal backgrounds, stupid remarks who want power at any cost.

No corruption because these leaders are already in a place where the desire to amass wealth through dubious means will not be very lucrative for them. They know how to create wealth. They are less likely to care about money and power and exploiting the nation for it because they have seen enough of it already. Tax payers money will be spent where it can be justified and not where some politician will personally benefit.

Defense, health care, security, education, public infrastructure, transport, industry, trade, everything will be just much much better managed.

There will little cause of frustration and exploitation because with economic progress comes a better educated, better thinking and more aware and intelligent population.

The politicians who today remain in power by making sure the masses stay poor, uneducated and fed on religious bullshit will suddenly find themselves out of jobs and out of followers.

The implications are endless if you start thinking about it................I cannot by myself, do justice to the tree of possibilities that this idea can sprout.

Like John Lennon said, "Imagine . . . its easy if you try."

There's only one problem with this idea. I have a feeling none of the really deserving and qualified people will agree to take up this job. After all politics is dirty buisness and given their level of intelligence and disposition, they are most likely to see this as a downgrade from their current positions. They probably wouldnt have the time and inclination.

You might call this a fool's fantasy but if we could even get one industry leader, or an intellectual to be the CM of maharashtra, or the CEO of Bombay, we will definitely see at least the beginning of the changes I can imagine right now.

Till then, we will have to do with having to choose between the slimeballs that we call our politicians, the like of what we find now on the country's political scenario and in our newspapers and TV today.

Its not a fair choice.

In fact there is no choice.

Terrorists attacks ? bade bade shaharon me aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain . . .

Almost none of us expect our politicians to have any intelligence or brains because after all in India politics IS such a dirty business that only people who are not intelligent and qualified enough to work and make a living or achieving success in any field opt to get into politics. This is the only career where even the uneducated, the incompetent, the mentally retarded get to reach a place where they can satisfy their psychotic needs of ego gratification and get to cover up their inferiority complexes.

That's why you see most of the ranks of the political career (with a few rare exceptions) are filled with individuals hailing from the categories of local goons, petty criminals, unemployed troublemakers and in our country, even decoits and murderers.

But all said and done inside each of these half-witted idiots there still is one common thing that they share with the rest of us, which is that they are humans. And by that qualification, I would expect them to have some very basic human sensibilities and a moderately working brain.

Sadly, R R Patil has disqualified himself even on this basic human trait test.

To make a public statement one day after the worst terror attack on our home, he says that "bade shaheron me aise ek aadh haadse hote rehte hain." which means that "in big cities few minor incidents like this keep on happening, Chill man, its nothing to worry about."

I have lost the capacity, or rather I have exhausted my capacity to get angry on such moronic remarks on such bad times by politicians because I am human and I cannot replicate the same responses time after time again and again. These kind of stupidities are becoming more of a norm than exceptions.

While his office is frantically calling up every media house in the city pleading them not to replay this remark and that it is being quoted "out of context", I just want to ask one thing to his office, Patil himself and the people of Bombay.

Can you concieve of ANY context, any situation, any scenario where this remark said about the Bombay terror attacks would be justified ??

Also I want to ask Patil . . . If your wife Mrs. Suman Patil and your 1 son and 2 daughters were dining at Kandahar that evening and were among the people who that terrorist lined up against the wall and shot dead at point blank range . . . and if you would be cremating their charred bodies today . . . would you have still said that "bade shaheron me aise ek aadh haadse hote rehte hain?"

Just say that once to any of the family members of the people who were killed that day Patil, and you will realize that the 195 Bombay citizens that actually died are a bigger loss to us and a greater cause of concern to us than your hypothetical theory that "they could have killed 5000 but we didnt let them" that you go on saying to yourself and others just to lessen your guilt and console yourself.

Grow up Patil, or get the fuck out of this city.

Where are the guardians of the Maharashtrian Pride ?

Mumbai is under attack. We are in a state of war. We are still trying to flush out terrorists with sophisticated weapons from our city.

These terrorists have not only hurt the maharashtrian pride, but virtually raped it and paraded it naked on the streets of Mumbai.

Surprisingly, the very vocal and the very aggressive defenders of the maharashtrian pride are not to be heard or seen in this critical situation their beloved home town is enduring. Not a statement or a response or a helping hand from the radical dynamic brave maratha soldiers.

Where is the great dynamic leader Raj Thackeray who likes to compare himself to Hitler in media interviews. Not a squeek from him or his brave warriors the MNS members.

Its so very easy to go around burning public property, beating up members of the weaker and poorer sections of society, rikshaw taxi drivers and causing damage and destruction in the city when you are protected by the very law and order system that you are damaging. In peaceful times when our police, our army, our law-enforcement forces and our tax money keep them protected, we see these rats jumping around, shouting that they are the sons of the soil, screaming they should get all the jobs and all the benefits although they dont want to work, they want to dictate which language people in the state should communicate in, display their business in, who can work and live here and who shouldn't, that basically mumbai belongs to their father and what not.

Where are they now......hidden deep in their cozy state-protected air-conditioned rat-holes ?? scared shit out of their minds watching TV and waiting for the army commandos and the NSG (called in from north india) and New Delhi to save them from this calamity ?

We need you now Raj, we need brave protectors of people's pride, people like you and your party workers. You fearless, just, righteous maharashtrian warriors, we need you to get those terrorists out from your own city, your home.......... we need you to save your mumbaikars and their foreign guests who are held hostages. Go out there and show the same bravado and courage you had shown attacking all those north indians in October. Believe me these handful of terrorists dont stand a chance against you and your mighty MNS.

Better still, How about you go out there in front of the Taj hotel and challange the terrorists to come down to the streets and you show them whose father mumbai belongs to ??

These terrorists from pakistan have hurt the sentiments, the pride and the garima of maharashtrians and mumbaikars raj . . . wake up, come out from your dingy holes and show them what you guys are made of . . . save us from them.

Lets get angry: bombay terrorist attack 27th november 2008.

Lets finally say to ourselves, "enough is enough"

Lets decide to do whatever little we can in cleaning our city our world of this disease called islamist terrorism.

Lets be more careful, more alert, more aware, of our surroundings & the people around us,

Lets stop taking things for granted,

Lets stop taking things easy,

Lets stop 'saluting the spirit of mumbai' after every attack and start waking up our spirit, because WE ARE MUMBAI,

Lets stop paying attention to & expecting anything from our politicians,

Lets start being careful & responsible for our lives & our families ourselves,

Lets learn self-defense,

Lets admit to ourselves that we live in a state of war, that mumbai is no longer a 'safe' city and that a single aimless random bullet / bomb from a fucked up demented muslim fanatic is all it takes to end our lives, the dreams and the good times of our families,

Lets grind our teeth & start hating these terrorists & their stupid jehad passionately with our hearts & soul,

Lets get angry, really angry on terrorism and terrorists because unless we are really angry as a nation and as people, we can not do anything about these things. We will simply go on going to work, coming home, watching TV, and going to sleep, forever and ever.

We, bombayites, famous for our determination, our ability to go on with our lives, regardless of madmen walking into our homes and maiming and killing us are actually just plain stupid.

Its in the interest of politicians to go on "saluting our spirit" and keep us busy with our jobs and careers and lives with our nose to the grind, making money for them, without comprehending or understanding or responding to the threat situations around us. I am so sick of being this somnambulist moron whose spirit everyone salutes and who goes on with my uncertain insecure life not knowing if I will ever see my children grow up, and god forbid, dreading the thought of them growing up in this kind of world.

After this terror attack we all will once again resume our work and our lives nonchalantly because we are mumbai-ites, people salute our spirit, people praise us for being resilient and committed, towards our work, our livelihood. The politicians will play their blame games and try to use this situation to make themselves heros and assure their votes and power and we will be the same, sitting ducks for another of these terror attacks by some other fanatic mujahideen a few weeks or months later. And this goes on and on.

Because . . .

We dont feel angry . . . Really Angry !! We dont feel the rage, the burning seething anger that would make us think of options that we dont normally think of for dealing with this menace. We have become way too placid and careless because of an unfortunate overdose of the "hota hai, chalta hai" attitude. We need a more Aggressive Anti-terrorism Mindset.

We are way too busy working towards that promotion, that car, that new cellphone, that business deal, that laptop, that position, that body . . . !!

I am not saying we get angry and do something foolish. But what I mean is we dont let this cool down and fade away from our consciousness. That we change our attitude and our way of living a little bit to make sure our government and our politicians understand that WE ARE ANGRY AND WE WILL NOT TAKE THIS ANYMORE. We start asking questions and we start demanding justifications for our taxes, our nation, our legal system.

Lets start being apprehensive and stop being careless of our surroundings, situations and people we interact with.

Lets stop believing in the utopian fallacy that India is a secular country, people of all faith live together in harmony here and our constitution protect us and our religious freedom.

Lets start thinking that while not all muslims are terrorists, why are all terrorists muslims.

Why, when we pick up ANY newspaper of ANY day, in any crime report anything to do with drugs, arms, extortion, illegal immigration, illegal money transactions, murders, gangwars, and of course terror acts, 98% chances are the names are all muslims.

Lets wake up to reality, no matter how un-intellectual or un-cool it sounds.

The deccan mujahideen who claimed responsibility for this attack sent a mail to media saying "We warn the indian government to stop atrocities on muslims and return all the lands snatched from muslims."

Atrocities on muslims . . . Anyone who has lived in India in the last 5 decades knows that muslims as a minority have been treated on our land as a very favoured class with special privileges IN SPITE OF the great contribution to the law and order situation they have offered. Our politicians go out of their way to appease and please them for the strength of their indiscriminately ever-growing population feeding on our country's infrastructure and our tax money. The sheer number of people that have been killed by muslim terrorists hands in the past few decades are enough to null all arguments of atrocities on muslims.

Lets stop being stupid and endangering our children's lives.

Lets wake up, toughen up, gear up, speak up, get worked up . . . lets get angry and lets clean up.

The great MNS circus and Raj's arrest drama

Never mind my previous post, the damage and mayhem that we saw yesterday on the streets of mumbai was enough for any responsible government to take action and ban this motley collection of frustrated, unemployed, undeserving bunch of blind idiots who call themselves MNS and put them all behind bars.

They burnt buses, taxis, public property, beat up innocent poor rikshaw and taxi drivers on national television, and their leader walked in acting (and probably feeling) like a hero.

No doubt he will be let off with a bail in all his non-bailable offenses. His planned drama of his arrest was not lost on anyone smart enough to have a mind in mumbai, except ofcourse his party members.

A beautiful article written by Shobha De, the quintessential bombay woman -

Me, Marathi - written by Shoba De

Correct me if I am wrong, Raj... but I consider myself an assal Marathi manoos. Born in Maharashtra to Maharashtrian parents etc. Proud to be Marathi (even though my language skills in my mother tongue are embarrassingly dodgy). I don't know how to make the perfect puran poli but I do love aamti..

This is clearly not enough anymore. Going by the checklist, I could be disqualified on several scores. I am married to a Bong, who has lived and worked in Mumbai for over 30 years (but alas, has not been appointed ambassador to the state of West Bengal yet!). He attends Durga Puja regularly and prefers maacher jhol to vangi bhaat.

Fortunately, we don't have a daughter-in-law to name a college after, either in Kolkata or Mumbai.... And our children (like yours) did not attend Marathi-medium schools.. We employ people based on their competence, not caste or region. And I have never asked the vegetable vendor, breadwalla, taxi driver, dhobi, sweeper, elevator attendant, security guard, pizza delivery boy or any of the other people who make my life easier, which part of India they come from.

This is Mumbai, meri jaan! Who cares where anyone comes from? Dhanda is all that matters.. Mumbai is India 's most powerful magnet. Once you get here, you never leave. Don't believe me? Ask those innocent bhajjiwallas and doodhwallas who were beaten up and stoned by your men last week. Even with blood-soaked bandages around their heads, and broken hearts, they are staying put. As they should.

Aaah, the natak of your dramatised 'arrest' was not lost on anybody. Had Rakhi Sawant's slapping stunt not grabbed those eyeballs on Valentine's Day, viewers would still be stuck with the image of a nattily dressed you (mmmm...loved the styling), clambering in and out of the police van. If Rakhi cleverly stage-managed the incident, what should one say about your brilliant coup? Overnight, Raj Thackeray was elevated from being the discarded Thackeray to a national figure.

In one well-orchestrated move, you went from being a neglected nephew of an ageing tiger, to a sharp-clawed, teeth-baring cub with an independent act of his own. The circus acquired a brand new star attraction - you!

It was never easy being a Thackeray. Ask Balasaheb. If he targeted south Indians in the '60s, you smartly headed north. Same agenda, diametrically different directions. By questioning the bona fides of those who have made Maharashtra their home, both of you tapped into the vulnerabilities of the average Marathi manoos. It is worth asking the very people whose interests you are protecting, whether they really want to do the dirty work currently being handled by the northies.

Will the Marathi manoos agree to put in 18 hours a day plying taxis, selling veggies, washing clothes and so on? Who's stopping them from turning into vendors of milk, food grains, and other commodities? Perhaps, the Marathi manoos considers such occupations demeaning? The truth is, these jobs have always gone abegging, and there have been any number of hungry, unemployed people from other states ready and willing to grab them. Kick the 'outsiders' out at your own peril, and see what happens...

Why do farmers commit suicide in such numbers only in Maharashtra ?

The answer, dear Raj, may surprise you.

In your defence, let me say you received the worst press - biased at best, and shrill to boot. Most of the semi-hysterical reporters from prestigious news channels were embarrassingly ill-informed as they blabbered incoherently each time a leaf moved outside the magistrate's court!

Surely, you are not complaining? Everything seems to be going according to the master plan. You have 'made it' in one swift move. And women are finding you kinda cute in that sleeveless baby blue pullover. Great copy, great photo ops. What more does a neta want? To keep Mayawati and Lalu out of Maharashtra ? Now, that's a tall order!

This person Raj Thakeray is so predictable, its not funny. Everyone who matters in our country can see thru his facade but still strange are the ways of the law and system of india. He will get out of this unscathed, and more popular than he has ever been. This drama will give him celebrity status and probably z level security.

This self-proclaimed defender of the mysteriously fragile maratha pride also challenged the deputy commissioner of mumbai police that he should drop his uniform and come down to the streets of mumbai and raj will show him whose father mumbai belongs to (no kidding, this is a political leader talking to national media).

People get the leaders they deserve . . . !!

Well raj . . . . I . . . Arjun . . . . a very ordinary citizen of India, with no political connections and no police influence . . . . . a true mumbaikar who loves mumbai more than you or any of your gang members ever can . . . . . am willing to accept your challenge . . . . If you are man enough to drop YOUR political trappings, leave behind your gang of thugs and come down to ANY street of my mumbai by yourself . . . . . one to one, man to man, you and me . . . . I will show you whose father mumbai belongs to . . . . . !!

If you ever have the guts, let me know . . . . anytime, anywhere . . . . . I will be waiting for you.

Why Raj Thakeray and his MNS gang should be banned

The Constitution of India, the foundation upon which we have built our
nation, its legal system, its democracy and its way of functioning.

We all seem to have forgotten or seem to be ignoring our constitution, the building blocks of our nation, in all the noise and political drama created recently by ambitious political parties like the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and its leader and promoter Raj Thakeray,

It is but obvious to everyone literate and intelligent in our country that Raj Thakeray and his MNS party's agenda has nothing to do with the benefit or protection of the people of maharashtra and has everything to do with achieving his own political agenda by creating issues out of nothing, gaining media exposure, establishing his party in the public memory and making a lot of money.

Let's see if the supposed, self-proclaimed protectors of Maharashtra and its pride have any clue about the constitution of the country they lives in and are they acting in accordance to it.

To start with, the first paragraph of The Constitution of India -

We, The people of India, having solemnly resolved to
constitute India into a SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and
to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;

and to promote among them all

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity
and integrity of the nation;

Now some excerpt from the Constitution of India -

(Part III.Fundamental Rights.Arts.
15-16.)

15. (1) The State shall not discriminate against any
citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any
of them.

Does that also mean that the state will not allow any citizen, or any political party to discriminate against any other citizen of India on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them. If an individual or a group of individual willfully do this, does the state has any
right to intervene and prevent this from happening ?

Part III, Definition 12

In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires, “the State’’
includes the Government and Parliament of India and the Government and the
Legislature of each of the States and all local or other authorities within
the territory of India or under the control of the Government of India.

The state in simple terms means our state government, our police, our legal system, what are they doing to prevent Raj Thackeray and MNS workers from openly flouting the 1st clause of Fundamental Rights of the citizens of India.

Raj Thackery and other members of the MNS have damaged public property (PVR cinemas, september 11), damaged other citizen's property (Roopam showroom, september 9), threatened other citizens of mumbai (Mrs. Jaya Bachchan) because of discriminations based on grounds of religion, race, caste, place of birth. This is against our constitution, a punishable offence and totally illegal, so what do we expect from THE STATE ?

(Part III.Fundamental
Rights.
Arts. 15-16.)

16. (1) There shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters relating to employment or appointment to any office under the State.

(2) No citizen shall, on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, descent, place of birth, residence or any of them, be ineligible for, or discriminated against in respect of, any employment or office under the State.

Does this fundamental right also apply to private sector employers who are running businesses which are public utility establishments, like shopping malls, movie theatres, educational institutes, financial institutes, manufacturing units, public utilities like power plants, hydro projects etc.

Raj Thackeray and members of the MNS are openly pressurizing and threatening the private sector employers of these sectors to employ Maharashtrians not because of their qualifications and abilities for these jobs but purely on the grounds of religion, race, caste, and place of birth.

Is this legal and acceptable to force Indian employers to give employment based on caste or place of birth against their will, according to India's constitution ?

(Part III.Fundamental Rights.Arts.
15-16.)

Right to Freedom

19. (1) All citizens shall have the right—

(a) to freedom of speech and expression;

(b) to assemble peaceably and without arms;

(c) to form associations or unions;

(d) to move freely throughout the territory of India;

(e) to reside and settle in any part of the
territory of India;

(g) to practise any profession, or to carry on any
occupation, trade or business.

Raj Thackeray and members of the MNS have been personally attacking and threatening Mr. Amitabh Bachchan since many months for the fact that he is an Indian who was born in another state of India and chose to come and settle down in Mumbai. The constitution of India seems to agree with this fundamental right (e) to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India) of Mr. Bachchan for settling and practicing his profession in Mumbai, since
Mumbai is a part of India, but Raj Thackeray and his MNS party has been expressing their opinion publicly that regardless of what the Constitution of India states, they have decided that living in this part of India is not a fundamental right of the Indian citizen Mr. Bachchan, but is supposed to be a special favour granted to them by the people of maharashtra in exchange of which they are supposed to behave, act and present themselves as decided by Raj Thackeray and the MNS, including what they should say in public, what they should not say, what language they should use and how they should exercise their fundamental right of the freedom of speech and expression which the Republic of India has conferred upon them. Failure to comply with this dictate of the MNS is accompanied by threatening of imposing a ban on the films of Mr. Bachchan, which directly means that his right to practice his profession successfully in India will be taken away from him, and damaging public and private property, which are the theaters where his films are playing, also endangering a public lives in this violent process.

Has the constitution of India or our legal system given any rights to the MNS or any such political party to try to run a parallel government in any part of India since they are enforcing bans, enforcing code of conduct and deciding what the Indian citizens can see and what they cannot in the form of entertainment ? If they have not then this is a gross violation of constitution of India and its laws and is obviously illegal.

Now lets look at some fundamental duties of Indian citizens that the constitution of India expects of them in return for the democratic freedom they enjoy and their fundamental rights they exercise.

(Part VI.AFundamental Duties.)

FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES

51A. It shall be the duty of every citizen of India—

(a) to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem;

(b) to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom;

(c) to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India;

(d) to defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so;

(e) to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;

(f) to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;

(g) to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures;

(h) to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform;

(i) to safeguard public property and to abjure violence;

(j) to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement;

The sovereignty, unity and integrity of India directly depends on all the citizens of India assuming a common national identity and an understanding that they are Indians, not maharashtrians, gujratis, north indians, south indians, tamilians, etc. etc.

By propagating and spreading the concept of thinking and acting in terms of 'maharashtrians'
and 'non-maharashtrians' among the members of the MNS party and their followers in the illiterate and gullible masses of Mumbai, Raj Thackeray and his party MNS are actively and
intentionally defying their constitutional duty to to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.

They are also doing everything they can to destroy and disturb the harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities. Not to mention insulting and degrading a respectable lady citizen artist (Mrs. Jaya Bachchan) for choosing to speak in the national language of India, Hindi. Raj Thackeray has publicly insulted her by saying things like "Guddi Buddhi jhaali pan tyaala akkal aali nahi" (Guddi has grown old but has not got brains)
which is quite obviously a derogatory way to speak about a lady and "now she will come to know who Raj Thackeray is" which is quite obviously a threat. They are blatantly refusing to honor their constitutional duty, which is to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women.

The MNS party's public rioting, using violence by damaging public and private property, burning effigies, assembling in public with an intention to threaten, cause harm and disrupt public life of the citizens of India is in direct contradiction of our constitutional duty to safeguard public property and to abjure violence.

PART XVII

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

CHAPTER I.—LANGUAGE OF THE UNION

343. (1) The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.

If the official language of the union of India is Hindi, it should not be a problem if any Indian citizen chooses to use it in their day to day life and business? While the official language for state government work is marathi, as it should be, It is the fundamental right of every citizen of India
to -

1. Choose to display his business establishment's signboard in Hindi, or any language understood by the visitors of his establishment, which might not be marathi.

2. Choose the national language Hindi as his language of choice for educating his children in any school in india, not be forced to make them learn marathi (or any regional language for that matter). Everyone knows the importance of learning a regional language, but the MNS party has been trying to enforce a certain curriculum on the schools in Mumbai by unlawful means to
include marathis as a compulsory language. This is against the constitution of India and the democratic rights she has chosen to give its citizens. This is a specially frivolous and un-necessary issue of conflict in a state where everyone understands and can communicate in the national language, Hindi. Comparison to other south indian states is a useless argument of this case because every south indian state, every citizen of those states have within their democratic and constitutional rights to CHOOSE and decide the language they learn, communicate in, use in their daily lives. the people of South India have chosen to adopt
their regional language and english for this purpose, not because someone forced them to, but simply because they understand these languages better and its easier for them to communicate in them. The fact that the constitution of India does not even proposes forcing them to learn the national language, Hindi, is testimony to the extent to which our constitution extends the freedom of choice in choosing one's preferred Indian language.

If its is not within the constitution to enforce the usage and learning of any language on any Indian citizen, including the national language, the MNS agenda of -
  • Enforcing marathi on the people of Mumbai,

  • Forcible inclusion of marathi in all curriculums, including CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education), which are both national education boards of India and

  • Enforcement of marathi signboards on commercial establishments

is downright un-constitutional and illegal.

Like Indian citizens all over the country, people of Mumbai have a fundamental right to choose Hindi, english, marathi or any other language they are proficient in to adopt in their daily lives, including their children's education, their shop's signboards and their choice of language to speak at public functions.

Nowhere in our constitution or our laws is stated that any individual or group of individuals have a right to enforce the learning, use and expression of any language upon other citizens of India.

In which case, what Raj Thackeray and the MNS is publicly doing is illegal and against national interest.

We are first and foremost Indians, than maharashtrians, or non-maharashtrians, or UPites, or biharis, or tamilians etc. And to every citizen of India, national interest and integration should come much before the interest of the people of the state they live in.

Lets take a look at the latest incident that happened that sparked off the political circus of Raj Thackeray and his MNS party.

Mrs. Jaya Bachchan started to speak at a public function where just before her 2 other speakers had given their speeches in English.

She made a humorous remark at them for speaking in English by saying that "hum UP waale hain, hame Hindi me bolna chahiye." meaning we are from UP, we should speak in hindi (not in english).

She did not say "we should not speak in marathi",

she did not say "we are not mumbai-ites, we should speak in hindi,"

she did not say "we are not from maharashtra, we should speak in hindi",

in fact she did not even utter the words 'marathi', 'maharashtra', or made any reference to marathi speaking people or maharashtrians, nor did she hint at any 'anti-maharashtrian' word or sentiment. How this managed to hurt the pride and sentiments of marathi speaking people is a question everyone is asking themselves.

It could also have hurt the sentiments of the gujratis, the tamilians, the punjabis, the rajasthanis in mumbai because she said we should speak in hindi and chose not to speak in any of these state's languages. Many of the people present in that audience were surely from these states. But it only hurt the sentiments of marathi speaking people, and amazingly no marathi speaking
person in maharshatra except Raj Thackeray and members of his MNS party seemed to notice that the pride of maharashtra has been compromised because of what this lady said and now the maharashtrian dignity needs to be protected from all non-maharashtrians because of her casual remarks which were aimed at the 2 english speaking speakers.

Surely a very weak and in-adequate premise to launch a political attack and make an issue but politicians have never been known to have reason and logic, especially desperate, attention hungry, wanna-be politicians and self-proclaimed guardians of some fictitious public sentiments like Raj Thackeray whose only claim to fame is being from an illustrious family and finding himself in a commercial and financial capital of the country, which he and his equally desperate followers have very clear intentions of exploiting regardless of the 'interest of the maharashtrian
people'.

She merely said we should be speaking in hindi (which is our national language) and not in english, like the 2 previous speakers had done.

She shouldn't have said "hum UP waale hain . . ."

But think about this . . . even if she had said "hum mumbai waale hain, hame hindi me bolna chahiye", Raj Thackeray and his MNS chimpswould have still have jumped up and down, even sooner and louder saying the marathi sentiments have been hurt.

If the audience at the function was ok with hearing speeches in english and that did not hurt the maharashtrian pride, surely hearing a speech in our national language should not hurt their sentiments to the extent that it warrants this public drama by Raj Thackeray and their warnings of a ban on films and damaging of public property.

If Raj Thackeray and the party created and led by him MNS have been committing these acts and expressing their political agenda which is clearly against our constitution, the national interest and which are consequently illegal, and still the central government, the state government, our police force and our law and order system are not actively making efforts of stopping them and prosecuting them, I am sorry to say they too are abetting a crime and a criminal and are equally responsible for the sorry situation Mumbai finds itself in
today.

Mumbai being the cash cow of the whole nation, its obvious that these rogue political parties have an interest in creating trouble here for creating their identity, and eventually getting their share of the pie by any means, but we must all remember one thing, Mumbai, like any other city
is a part of the Republic of India and must be governed as such. This kind of jungle raj will only render our already shaky democracy even more weak.

And we all know at this point of time in this global scenario, we cannot afford this.
